CRICKETWEST CLUB COMMUNITY CUP-POSTPONEMENT SEASON 2023-2024

27 October 2023
Presidents and Affiliated Clubs-CricketWest

Dear Presidents and Affiliate Clubs of CricketWest,

At the recent monthly board meeting CricketWest were notified that the WACA ground would not be available to host the final of the CricketWest Club Community Cup this year.

CricketWest’s financial position has also been somewhat impacted in recent seasons, particularly with regard to the rising costs of facilities maintenance and cricket match consumables. Unfortunately, CricketWest has not been able to secure an increase to its revenue streams for this season.

With regard to these two elements combined and the boards understanding of the popularity of the club representative cup, which includes the opportunity for players to represent not only their own club, but to also play on the WA home of cricket (WACA ground) in a final has made the decision to postpone the competition for this season a very difficult one for the board.

CricketWest is totally committed to community cricket and we will make every effort to reinvigorate the Club Community Cup in coming seasons.

The board thanks affiliates for their understanding and wishes every club the very best for season 2023-2024.

Yours sincerely

Brad Pearce

Chairman CricketWest Inc

Season Launch - 23/24

Welcome to season 2023-2024 with a soft start including some short form cricket for our top grades to start of our first round. I can feel the buzz and excitement around the clubs with much anticipation this year about fulfilling an entire season of cricket along with the opportunity to play finals.

SEASON 2023-2024

This season will see the increase in more 1 day competitions, the abolition of 8th Grade, less Sunday cricket with Div 1 T 20 competition commencing the season with double header fixtures for the host team and a significant emphasis on attracting and retaining umpire participation.

UMPIRES

As you all would be well aware the board undertook a significant marketing campaign to firstly secure the services of an Experienced Umpires Manager- Mick Martell along with an experienced Umpires Trainers/Observers/Selectors -Jeff Brookes and Wayne Barron-All very experienced.

This teams brings together the highest level of experience and knowledge available outside of international cricket with a high degree of professionalism and knowledge which will know doubt transpire through to our umpiring team.

Umpiring numbers will steadily rise as the season starts and progresses so I will keep my powder dry at this stage at declaring numbers and what grades we will be able to get our quality umpires down into.

GAME DAY- HOME TEAMS

Just a reminder it is the home teams responsibility to ensure the umpire(s) are aware of the following prior to the toss of the coin;

  1. Location of the stumps, covers and hessian

  2. Paint for remarking crease lines at the tea interval break

  3. All line marking-pitch and ground markings/boundary flags have been completed

  4. A point of contact as the grounds person for the day

PLAYHQ

As we are all aware the competition has moved over to the new platform of PlayHQ. Like any new system and software it will come with its a sound basic functionality with some potential teething problems associated. Please ensure both scorebooks are used in the unfortunate scenario PlayHQ becomes problematic during the game.

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

We are delighted to have Bridget Correia appointed as our new Social Media Coordinator- Bridget currently plays in the Perth Scorchers Women’s league being a passionate fast bowler and improving middle order batter.

She will be reaching out to clubs for their best point of contact who controls their club’s social media and club websites to assist and help promote your club activities and milestones. Bridget can be contacted at media@wastca.com.au.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The WASTCA player of conduct applies to all participants and spectators again this season- We want all matches to be competitive, well supported and played in the right spirit.

Captains again this season are required to continue to show great leadership again this season- you are the face and the voice of your team and club-Lead by example.

Remember its just a game.

I wish every clubs and all teams the very best for what is set to be a very exciting and competitive competition this season.

Cheers for now.
